WEST HAVEN -- A fourth-quarter, goal-line stand helped top seed Hillhouse survive 13-12 over No. 4 Berlin Tuesday in the Class M state semifinals at Ken Strong Stadium.

Terrell Wilkes was able to chase down Chris Schroeder after a 78-yard gain before Hillhouse (11-0) held Berlin (8-3) on four straight plays, the last an interception by Denzel Smith.

Wilkes also caught the tying touchdown pass, a 38-yarder from quarterback Keerome Lawrence (92 rushing yards on 17 carries) in the fourth quarter. Darien Tompkins' extra point put the Academics up for good, 13-12.

Tom Libreda led the Redcoats with 109 rushing yards, all in the first half. He suffered a broken bone in his lower left leg in the third quarter after fumbling a kickoff return.

Willimantic - Tom Lee rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns and Andrew Davis also rushed for a pair of touchdowns as No. 3 Hand High School of Madison defeated No. 2 Windham 35-14.

The game was tied at halftime, 14-14, as Windham answered Hand's first touchdown by Lee with a 64-yard run from Kyle Brueckner to set up a 2-yard touchdown run by quarterback Bran Crudden, and Lameen Schand caught a 33-yard pass from Crudden to respond to Hand's second touchdown, this one from Davis.

Hand (9-2) scored on its first possession of the second half, however, running the ball 10 straight times - as the wind and Windham's defense had made it difficult for the Tigers to throw in the second quarter. Davis capped the drive with a 12-yard touchdown to put Hand ahead for good.

Lee made it 28-14 with a 1-yard run with 8 minutes, 27 seconds remaining, and J.J. Johnson scored for the Tigers on the next play as he scooped up a Windham fumble and carried it 21 yards for the final scoring.

Brueckner finished with 5 carries for 79 yards for Windham (8-3) , which managed just 30 yards offense in the second half.
