NEW BRITAIN -- Dy'onne Crudup threw two touchdowns to be named Hyde of New Haven's most valuable player as it defeated New London, 31-13, to win its second straight CIAC Class S championship at Arute Field.

The top-seeded Howling Wolves (12-0) have won three state titles in their program's eight year history. They've also won a state-best 24 straight games.

Crudup threw for 58 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 63 yards on 18 carries.

Donovan Roberts caught a 10-yard touchdown from Crudup while Sidney Cummings caught a 3-yard touchdown from Crudup. Cummings also caught a 27-yard touchdown from Robert Walker.

James Nixon scored on a 5 yard run for the Howling Wolves and James Mitchell scored on a 3-yard run.
Dan Nurse had 107 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries for third-seeded New London (10-2), which turned the ball over eight times.

Dom Griffin scored on an 8-yard run for New London while Jerome Hudson, who had a sack and blocked punt, was named his team's MVP.

Hyde held off Rocky Hill 22-19 in the Class S semifinals at Southern Connecticut State Tuesday night.

The Howling Wolves, winners of 23 straight games, will attempt to successfully defend their title Saturday against New London. The site and time of the game will be announced today.

No. 1 seed Hyde (11-0) stuffed the Terriers on three straight running plays setting up a fourth and goal at the 5 with 27 seconds remaining. Rocky Hill's Chris Tyler, who was 1-for-2 on extra points on the night, missed a field goal attempt from 22 yards out.

Mark Fritz scored all three touchdowns for Rocky Hill. James Nixon led the way for the Wolves with 23 carries for 212 yards.

West Hartford - Dan Nurse rushed for 257 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries and added another run for a two-point conversion as New London defeated Northwest Catholic of West Hartford, 35-15.

The third-seeded Whalers (10-1) haven't played in a state final since it won the 1992 Class S championship.

Jordan Reed was 10-of-16 for 158 yards and two touchdowns for New London. David Reed (seven receptions, 134 yards) caught both touchdowns.

Mike Bourdon was 14-of-29 for 153 yards with an interception and ran 16 times for 103 yards and a touchdown for the No. 2 Indians (10-1). Pete Andruszkiewicz added a 1-yard touchdown run while Rich Kevorkian ran for 158 yards on 19 carries.
