NORTH BRANFORD - The defending CIAC Class SS champion Woodland Hawks got big games from quarterback Alex Dorosh and all-purpose back Jeff Jones in their 27-7 semi-final victory over North Branford Tuesday night at Colafati Field.

The win catapults Woodland to the Class SS finals for a second straight year, as last season, the Hawks soundly defeated Holy Cross-Waterbury 35-0 to claim the school's first football State championship.

Woodland's second score, a 13-yard touchdown pass from Dorosh to Jones in the second quarter, turned out to be the winner, as the Hawks led at that point, 14-0.

Dorosh notched the first Hawk score on a one-yard keeper in the first quarter.

The Thunderbirds got on the board on the last play of the first half on a 1-yard Zach Bowler plunge, making it a 14-7game at the intermission.

Woodland posted the only two scores of the second half on a Jones 5-yard run in the third quarter, while Will Volage returned an interception 80 yards for a score late in the fourth.

For the game, Dorosh was 14-26 for 165 yards and a score, while Jones rushed 23 times for 123 yards.

For North Branford, Colin Gallogly was 5-of-11 for 79 yards, with two picks and Bowler rushed 12 times for 59 yards to go with his score.
