Senior quarterback Rob Moir ran for a 37-yard touchdown with 5:16 remaining as Seymour held off Tolland's upset bid in the Class SS championship game at Trumbull High.

Moir was 4 for 9 passing for 133 yards and three touchdowns, all to Rich Spader and ran for 171 yards and two touchdowns.

Chris Leonard ran 24 times for 172 yards and a touchdown for Tolland, which was within two points with less than 6 minutes to play. But a costly offsides penalty turned a 4th-and-7 into a 4th-and-2. On the next play Moir raced around right end for the 37-yard TD.

WATERBURY - Senior quarterback Rob Moir rushed for four touchdowns and returned an interception 53 yards for another score to lead the top-seeded Wildcats to a 46-28 victory over fourth-seeded Woodland Regional Tuesday in the semifinals of the CIAC Class SS playoffs at Municipal Stadium's Ray Snyder Field.

Running primarily out of a shotgun formation, Moir ran for touchdowns of six, four, 16 and four yards.

But the backbreaker for the Hawks came on defense when Moir intercepted a fourth-quarter pass and returned it all of the way down the right sideline to give the Wildcats a 46-21 edge, too much for the Hawks (8-4) to overcome.

Senior running back Will Volage scored three touchdowns for the Hawks, including a 65-yard screen pass from Cody Kingsley on the opening drive of the game.

Volage also had a 65-yard run on a sweep down the left sideline and added a 5-yard TD reception from Kingsley.

Junior Jon Murren added a nine-yard TD run for Woodland, its final score of the game with under two minutes left.
