Congratulations to Lucas Andreika (Weston), the Class S Singles Champion and to Tom Kimball (Shepaug Valley) as the finalist. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Tom Kimball a heartfelt goodbye as he graduates and attends Colby College (Maine) in the fall. We will all be hard pressed to replicate the standard of performance, sportsmanship and dignity that Tom has brought to this tournament each year he has competed. A genuine scholar-athlete, a ferocious competitor ...we will miss you Tom. Congratulations are also in order for Charles and Sebastian Buffa who defeated their teammates to become the Class S Doubles Champions, and to Will Weiss (senior, 2007 Doubles Champion, will be attending Williams College, Massachusetts) and Andrew Pesco, the doubles finalists. The team results remain unchanged as a result of the finals, they are as follows: 1. Weston, 2. Bolton, 2. East Catholic, 4. Haddam-Killingworth, 4. Shepaug Valley.
Qualifying players should report to Conard High School on Saturday, June 7th at 2:00 PM for the CIAC State Open. Watch this site for any changes due to weather. Athletes should begin hydrating as early as tonight (06/05/08) as temperatures are expected to be in the nineties. The CIAC Open will continue on Monday and Tuesday for those who qualify.
A very special thanks to the folks at Conard High School, who have provided the Class S Tournament with everything necessary to be successful. Their efforts have promoted a first class setting for us to compete, all the amenities we need to be comfortable, and the kind of support that brings out the best in everyone. Thank you Betty (Conard AD), Brian (Conard trainer) and all other support staff associated with Conard and the West Hartford schools. Each of you make this complex, yet important adventure ....much easier.
