WEST HAVEN - Senior tailback Kory Sheets rushed 30 times for 196 yards and scored two touchdowns as No. 1 seed Bloomfield defeated No. 3 Brookfield 34-14 in the Class SS championship game Wednesday night at Ken Strong Stadium.
Sheets, named his team's MVP, scored on first-half runs of 25 and 73 yards as he had 142 yards on 13 carries by halftime.
It was the seventh state title for Bloomfield (10-3) in 11 championship game appearances and fifth in the last six years.
Fullback Ben Russell, who was named Brookfield's MVP, sliced Bloomfield's lead to 21-14 with a 51-yard touchdown run and the two-point conversion with 3:20 left in the half.
But Bloomfield's defense clamped down in the second half, and allowed Brookfield only 11 yards rushing after intermission.
Bloomfield finished with 397 total yards, 291 on the ground, with fullback Marlon Thornton gaining 59 of his 71 yards on a fourth-quarter touchdown run.
Russell led Brookfield rushers with 66 yards on 9 carries as the Bobcats (8-4-1) finished with 142 rushing yards and 36 passing.
Martin Manson caught a pair of touchdown passes from freshman quarterback Carl Randolph, a 43-yarder on the sixth play of the game and a 41-yarder on the last play with 7 seconds remaining.

BLOOMFIELD -- Kory Sheets ran for 400 yards on 19 carries as scored four touchdowns as No. 1 Bloomfield (9-3) defeated No. 4 Notre Dame (6-5-1) in Bloomfield.
Sheets scored on runs of 48, 95, 65 and 74 yards. Sheets, who had 322 yards rushing at halftime, did not play in the fourth quarter.
Notre Dame lost a fumble at the Bloomfield 4, then couldn't score from a foot away on fourth down on its next possession. Sheets' TD runs in the second quarter came on consecutive carries.
Neither starting quarterback - Notre Dame's Brad Stearns and Bloomfield's Carl Randolph - finished the game. Stearns suffered a concussion late in the third quarter and Randolph left with leg cramps one play into the fourth quarter.

Waterford - Ben Russell rushed for 111 yards and scored three touchdowns, leading Brookfield to a 28-14 win over Waterford in the Class SS semifinals.
Russell caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from quatrterback Len Melden with 3:44 remaining to seal the game for the Bobcats (8-3-1), who were protecting a 21-14 lead.
Waterford finished 9-3.
Brookfield had possession of the ball five times and scored four touchdowns on drives of 66, 80, 57 and 55 yards. Patrick Bernardez ran for a game-high 126 yards for Brookfield, and scored the game's first touchdown on a 16-yard run with 5:49 left in the first period. Brookfield, which ran for 310 yards and attempted one pass for the entire game, took a 14-0 lead in the second period on Russell's 1-yard run.
Waterford cut it to 14-6 on Brian Robinson's 3-yard touchdown run, but Brookfield scored with 1:06 left in the first half on Russell's 3-yard touchdown run.
Robinson's second touchdown of the game and Mike Martell's two-point conversion catch moved the Lancers to within 21-14, but Robinson fumbled with 8:25 to go, setting up Russell's late touchdown reception.
Quarterback Ryan Archambault ran for 64 yards to lead Waterford.
